Celebrating 30 years of collaboration with the Irish Institute of Master Mariners, the annual Master Mariner event took place on 8th of March at the Marine Institute, Ireland’s centre for marine research.
The Marine Institute provided the perfect location for diverse topics related to how people and the sea interact. The team at the Marine Institute provided inspirational and engaging talks, adding to the participant experience. We are very grateful to Dr. Rick Officer and his team for their welcome.
The winner of the “Captain Desmond Fortune Founders Award” for Venture Scouts was Joe Leonard of 9th Port (Malahide), presented with the trophy by the event's first winner Captain Brian McKenna.
The winner of the “Captain Cian Timmons Memorial Award” for Rover Scouts was Conor Brosnan of 7th Port (Howth), presented with his trophy by Brian Sinnott, vice president of the Irish Institute of Master Mariners. A rich panel of marine professions gave of their time and expertise, allowing young people learn about the diversity of careers at sea.
