On Sunday 11th February, all sections from the 13th Galway Renmore Scout Group gathered at the Community Garden in Merlin Woods in glorious sunshine.
The Rover Section organised a morning of picking litter & bio diversity in a fun way with the help of Friends of Merlin Woods.
7 groups were divided up between Scouters, Scouts Cubs and Beavers. They were given a map and a checklist to record what they found and off they went to their designated area. The Venture Section provided 1st Aid and marshal duties on the day.
In total, 207kg of rubbish was collected in 37 bags! Most common being hard plastics, soft plastics and metals.
After all their hard work hot dogs and cakes were had along with coffee and tea for the Adults. It was great to see all the different ages working together for a common goal.
Thanks to Caroline and Colin from Friends of Merlin Woods for hosting and for giving an engaging talk on biodiversity that was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Thanks to the Team lead for the event, Patryk and Rover Section for organising a fantastic day.
The group hopes to collaborate more with Friends of Merlin Woods in the future.
