The Annual Tree Planting Event took place on the 22nd and 23rd of February 2025 at the Lough Dan Scout & Eco Centre, where over 200 Scouts from various groups came together to plant trees in the native woodlands, helping to create a thriving forest for the future.
Throughout the weekend, participants planted a total of 295 trees, making a significant contribution to the preservation and expansion of the local ecosystem. The event not only focused on tree planting but also featured a variety of engaging activities, including Radio Scouting Ireland, Bird/Bat Box Making, and a Bio-Diversity Base.
Scouts were also given the chance to engage in their own programmes, such as hiking, pioneering, picnics, and outdoor cooking, fostering teamwork and a love for the outdoors.
Special thanks go to Zef Klinkenbergh, the "Tree Man of Lough Dan," whose dedication as a volunteer helped organise and run the event. The hard work of the Tree Planting Event Volunteers and Lough Dan Project Team Volunteers, as well as Radio Scouting Ireland, made this event a memorable and impactful one for all involved.
This annual event continues to support the Scouts’ mission to care for the environment, demonstrating the commitment to sustainability and community.
