Derek has been involved in Scouting since 1980 as a member of the 21st Limerick Scout Group. For the past 15 years, he has scouted with the 14th Limerick Murroe-Boher in the Beaver/Cub/Scout/Venturer sections.
Currently, he serves with their Scout Section and Group Council. Professionally, Derek is a Senior Lecturer with the Technological University of the Shannon, delivering undergraduate and postgraduate education and research support in the area of entrepreneurship and innovation management.
He is also involved with the Tait House social enterprise community group and is active with the TUI Limerick Colleges Branch.
